Nivelles is 120 kilometres from Lille, 140 from Valenciennes, 180 from Dunkirk. For an industrial site in the north, we are often closer than a contractor coming up from Paris — and that is what makes our commitment to be on site within 24 hours of the call realistic rather than promotional.
We do not claim to cover the whole of France. For an inspection in Marseille or Bordeaux somebody else will be better placed, and we will say so. But along the Lille — Valenciennes — Maubeuge axis we are on home ground: it is the continuation of the Walloon industrial basin, with the same European standards and often the same groups on both sides of the border.
The region concentrates steelmaking on the Dunkirk coast, chemicals, rail engineering around Valenciennes and Crespin, automotive, and a dense network of pressure vessel fabrication and structural steelwork. All of it generating weld inspection, remaining thickness surveys and pressure equipment examinations at regular intervals.
What changes when you work in France
The vocabulary, first. Belgium says contrôles non destructifs; France more commonly says essais non destructifs, shortened to END. Same trade — and COFREND, the Confédération française pour les essais non destructifs, is the reference body for personnel certification.
Our technicians are certified to EN ISO 9712, the international standard the COFREND scheme itself is built on. An ISO 9712 certificate issued by an accredited body therefore covers personnel qualification on a French site, subject to whatever your client's specification additionally requires.
For pressure equipment, Directive 2014/68/EU (PED) is usually referred to in France by the acronym DESP. Same European text, different abbreviation. In-service surveillance, on the other hand, falls under French national regulation: there we carry out the examinations in support of the approved body appointed by the operator.
What we perform in France
Visual testing, penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, conventional and phased array ultrasonics, thickness measurement, hardness testing, material identification, ferrite measurement, pressure and leak testing.
Radiography stays in Belgium
This is our only limitation outside Belgium, and it is regulatory rather than technical. Using ionising radiation sources requires a licence granted country by country. Ours comes from FANC-AFCN, the Belgian authority, and it does not travel.
In practice: radiography is carried out in Belgium — on site, or in our bunker at Nivelles, where your components can be shipped to us. Every other method, we bring to you.
One piece of advice while we are on the subject. If a contractor offers you radiography anywhere in Europe without saying under whose licence they operate, the question is worth asking. They may well be subcontracting — perfectly legitimate — but you would rather know before signing.
Why call us from France

Then accreditation. LCNDTEST is an inspection body accredited by BELAC under number 786-INSP to EN ISO/IEC 17020. BELAC is a signatory to the European multilateral agreement, which is what makes that accreditation legible across the border. The exact scope granted is published and can be consulted.
Finally safety, which governs access to most industrial sites: we hold SCCp (VCA Petrochemie) certification from TÜV AUSTRIA. Reports are issued in French, Dutch or English, as you prefer.
